VW Golf 16V High Revs Idle

After topping up my oil this week the revs on the car are getting very high at idle and when the car starts. I found this thread giving some useful info and will be working through the checklist on my 16V to try to track down the issue. I had to move some cables to get to the oil filler so I'm hoping something has come adrift when doing that.
